Meet Caroline Avinger

In honor of National Business Etiquette Week (NBEW) June 3-9, 2018, we wanted to take this opportunity to provide a better understanding of our graduates and the amazing things they are doing! Caroline Avinger is a 2009 graduate of PSOW, Here's what she shared with us!

How do you utilize your PSOW training? Even if I am not teaching a class or coaching an individual, so much of what I learned is layered onto everyday situations---whether in interactions with co-workers or at the grocery store. If you aren’t living it, it is hard to teach it authentically.

What topics do you teach the most (or favorite topics to teach)?  Conversation and networking skills---both are things that don’t always come naturally to me since I am by nature an introvert, and a shy one at that. But because I must push myself to put myself out there (my own version of an extreme sport?), I understand the hang-ups others may have as well. I can definitely empathize! And every time I teach it, I learn something new myself!

How has PSOW had an impact on your life/career? PSOW has been an ongoing blessing! I have my own business, which I love. Even though I’m also working in a corporate job, I really enjoy being able to continue using my PSOW training both in that position as well as in maintaining my own business. Several years ago, as I was going through a difficult professional transition, I called Pamela for advice. She got in touch immediately, and she was such a huge help as I navigated what turned out to be some difficult waters. Her advice played a vital role in how my etiquette and protocol business grew and evolved. It also showed me the impact of helping others grow their businesses, and I’ve tried to follow in her footsteps in that regard whenever the opportunity presents itself.

What advice would you give to those who are considering attending a course at PSOW? Do it! My one regret about PSOW is that I didn’t know about it sooner in my career. There are so many opportunities in this field, from owning your own business to working in a whole host of exciting and different environments---all while helping individuals and organizations be the best they can be.

First job(s)? I was a docent at the Sumter County Historical Society Museum and Archives.

Favorite book, movie or TV show? Books---too many to name. Movie: The Sound of Music TV show: Hell on Wheels

Guilty Pleasure? Nutella. Nora Roberts. Netflix.

If there’s one thing we should know about you, it is…
