Brooke Peterson (2015 NBEW Winner) reflects on her PSOW experience
National Business Etiquette Week (June 5 - 12, 2016) starts tomorrow. Brooke Peterson was our winner of last year's "What will business etiquette look like in 2025?" video contest. As the winner, she received a complimentary tuition to our 5-day Train to be a Corporate Etiquette and International Protocol Consultant course for which she attended in November 2015. We took a few minutes to reconnect with her on her experience with PSOW.
Brooke, tell us about your overall impression of the Corporate Etiquette and International Protocol training you received.
I cannot say enough good things about the training! When I returned and my co-workers asked about the classes, I said it had been as if your team got together and decided to tailor everything perfectly to my interests! It was such a joy to go to class every day and cover topics that I cared so much about. I truly felt like an expert at the end of the course.
Did the training make you feel differently about the importance of corporate etiquette and training in today’s workforce? The training really reinforced my own beliefs that we need to have more civility and respect in the workforce.
In your winning entry, you specifically talked about how technology is impacting civility and respect in human interactions. What are your thoughts on this after attending the course?
This is something that I constantly have to be aware of. After having my views reinforced during training, I have tried to be more mindful of limiting my time using technology, especially at home. I definitely notice when people around me should put the cell phones away! As a society, whether we are with family in friends or in a business setting, we need to be present. And often that means putting away the devices!
What would you tell a prospective student thinking of attending a PSOW session? Absolutely do it! The Protocol School of Washington is not only full of top notch experts in the field, but it is also a first class operation. I was so impressed with the entire production and left knowing I could be successful.
